About Jessie Daniels

Jessie Daniels, PhD (she/they) is a queer, white-raised writer, professor, and researcher. Daniels works as a professor teaching Sociology and Applied Digital Sociology at Hunter College-CUNY. She is an internationally recognized expert on Internet manifestations of racism. She is the author or editor of six books. In her first two books, White Lies (Routledge, 1997) and Cyber Racism (Rowman & Littlefield, 2009), she offers an intersectional analysis of white supremacy before and after the rise of the popular Internet. In 2019, she was invited to present her research at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. Her most recent book, Nice White Ladies: The Truth about White Supremacy, Our Role in It, and How We Help Dismantle It (Seal Press, 2021), received a coveted starred review from Kirkus and was included on their list of Best Nonfiction of 2021. Daniels is a research affiliate with the Harvard Berkman Klein Center and the Oxford Internet Institute. Outside the academy, Daniels has worked in the tech industry and at Rikers Island. Daniels is also an avid quad roller-skater, a fan of house music and anything else that includes a disco ball.
