Support LGBTQ+ Homeless Youth
On #GivingTuesday
The pop culture fantasy is that gay people are wealthy. The reality is very different.
No one tracks the data nationally, but in New York City, a study from 2020 by a local agency found that over a third of all youth in foster care identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, or queer. And, being rejected by their parents for being LGBTQ+ is precisely why they’re in foster care: because their families have pushed them out of the family home. What happens when those in foster care turn eighteen is that they are often pushed out once again, and many end up on the streets and into shelters.

This #GivingTuesday, you can make a difference by supporting Sylvia’s Place, a shelter for LGBTQ+ youth and part of MCCNY Charities, which also includes a food pantry and a health clinic. I’m on the board at MCCNY and trying to close a gap in our funding by the end of the year. Please consider making a donation to our GoFundMe on this #GivingTuesday.
Thanks, y’all!
